Policy Planner - Urban and Rural Development
4 years, Fixed Term
This is an exciting opportunity for you to draw on your urban and rural policy expertise in a Unitary Authority context, and to plan and shape your work and life in a piece of paradise.
Tasman is home to some of the clearest water in the world (Te Waikoropupu springs) and the most iconic beaches in the country (Abel Tasman), and we also have some of the best water quality in New Zealand, but we can't be complacent. Tasman District is experiencing high rates of urban growth, a growing tourism trade and a burgeoning economy, and as a result has a great diversity of resources, development issues and opportunities.
This is a full time, fixed term position based in Richmond, and is suited to a motivated and experienced Policy Planner with district plan planning and policy development experience. The primary focus is urban and rural development and you will be expected to work on a range of policy topics in this field including the interface with our regional responsibilities, however we are a small team with a diverse portfolio of policy issues so you are likely to get involved in other areas.
You will have a relevant qualification in planning, resource management or science, preferably at post-graduate level, and at least five years' relevant experience including a demonstrated track record developing policy. You will also have knowledge of wide range of environmental legislation, policy and plan making and consent processes, and the ability to work autonomously and under tight time constraints.
If you excel in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders and want to help shape Tasman and its environment for current and future generations, then this is the job for you.
We offer a friendly and supportive working environment that will allow you to further your professional career and we have an emphasis on work life balance. If you live in a beautiful place like Tasman then you must have the time to enjoy it!
